Full disclosure: The Jam was a classic band that was simply not on my radar at all until their song “A Town Called Malice” was prominently featured in an episode of The Walking Dead last year. I’d heard the track before, but never really paid much attention to it or any other songs from the band.
After the episode aired, I started seeing comments from friends on Facebook about the song, both positive and negative reactions. Clearly, I thought, I’ve missed out on something here, and I promptly picked up a best of CD from The Jam to catch up.
I won’t say I was necessarily converted to a die-hard fan, but I was definitely glad I’d finally “discovered” them. It was long overdue. How had I never listened to these guys before?
So if you’re a bit more hip to The Jam than I was (as most rock fans probably are), you’ll appreciate the new box set coming out on October 20. The Jam – 1977 40th Anniversary Box Set is a four CD collection highlighting the output of The Jam that year, which included both their debut album and a hastily released follow-up. A DVD filled with live television appearances is also included, along with a 144 page book and a collection of memorabilia reproductions.
