For years, The Rolling Stones have pretty much been strictly a live act rather than an album band. Although they delivered a studio album in 2016, Blue & Lonesome was a collection of blues covers rather than new Stones music. Their only collection of new music this millennium was 2005’s A Bigger Bang.
The good news is The Rolling Stones have always been a great live act. Over the past few years, fans have been blessed by Eagle Vision’s series of From The Vaults CD/DVD combo releases, which have made some great concerts officially available (i.e. not bootleg versions) for the first time.
The next installment of the series is set for release on September 29. Sticky Fingers Live At The Fonda Theatre 2015 features a complete performance of the classic Stones album on CD, bundled with either a DVD or BluRay video of the concert.
Although fan probably welcome another release in this series, it is a little dubious to refer to a 2015 performance as being From The Vault.” Still, with the show being such a recent recording, we can be assured of the highest quality in both audio and video. Some of the previous Vault releases, while offering superior musical content, suffered from being lower fidelity source material.
