Industrial man of mystery, Trent Reznor, has tipped off fans on an upcoming “top-secret” Nine Inch Nails EP. There’s no title or release date yet, only news that last year’s Not The Actual Events was the first EP in a trilogy, and that the second release will come before the band begins their live shows this summer. The first live NIN appearance is scheduled for July 23, so we should see new music before then.
The information about the upcoming EP was shared via email to NIN customers waiting on the vinyl release of The Fragile: Deviations. Trent explains and apologizes for the long delay, then closes the email with the following information:
QUESTION: FINALLY, DID YOU KNOW THERE’S A NEW TOP-SECRET NINE INCH NAILS EP THAT WILL BE RELEASED BEFORE THE FIRST SHOWS WE DO THIS SUMMER? DID YOU KNOW NOT THE ACTUAL EVENTS WAS THE FIRST PART OF A TRILOGY OF RELATED EPS THAT WILL BE RELEASED ABOUT 6-8 MONTHS APART? NOW YOU DO. MORE INFORMATION ON THIS SHORTLY…
You can read the complete text of the email here.
Meanwhile, the NIN web store has reopened today, leveraging the same new fulfillment partner that will be helping satisfy the previously delayed orders. In addition to offering all the expected NIN albums on vinyl, there are a couple surprise additions. First, there’s the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score for Patriots Day, receiving its first physical release after previously only being available on digital. Second, and perhaps most surprising, is Trent Reznor’s soundtrack for the 1996 video game, Quake. Both appear to be “coming soon” as vinyl-only releases.
