CHVRCHES is that rare band that managed to avoid the “sophomore slump.” Their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, was excellent, and somehow, against all odds, so was their follow-up, Every Open Eye.
I can’t say the same for album three.
Which is fine, really. I don’t expect any band to be able to deliver a truly excellent album every time out. I’d settle for “really good.” Maybe even just “good.”
