In the current musical landscape, Dawes feels like a band out of time.
Do I mean retro? Definitely a little, yes. But it isn’t that they sound dated, necessarily. It’s that this kind of easy-going, rock-based storytelling hasn’t been common since the 70s and 80s.
To that end, I find Dawes’ sound and style refreshing. (And they put on an excellent live show too!) They’ve gradually become one of my favorite current bands.
