Haim Debut “Right Now” And Have Something To Tell You This Summer

It’s not really a surprise, but welcome news nonetheless: Haim have a new album coming out. The trio has been teasing an announcement over the past few weeks. It started with a series of billboards appearing around the world.

Then on April 20, the band began teasing the date of April 27. That’s a Thursday, so a surprise album drop seemed unlikely. And as I reported in December, the girls had been targeting a summer release for their sophomore album. Yesterday’s news that they would be returning to Saturday Night Live as musical guests for the May 13 episode made the likelihood of an official album announcement today highly likely.

And as expected, at 9AM Eastern Time this morning, Haim delivered “Right Now,” their first new song from their upcoming second album, Something To Tell You, due on July 7.

The video was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, best known for films like Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood, but also for music videos for Radiohead, Aimee Mann, and of course Fiona Apple.

There’s no official track list for the album yet, and while the cover art has yet to be revealed, it’s a fair bet it will resemble the billboard photos. Meanwhile, if you’re not already familiar with their excellent 2013 debut album, Days Are Gone, you should cancel your plans for the rest of the day, buy that record and put it on repeat!
