Goo Goo Dolls Tease Covers and Unreleased Songs For New EP

It’s been a few years since the Goo Goo Dolls had a hit song. In fact, the last hit you probably remember from them was their cover of “Give A Little Bit” by Supertramp back in 2004.

On May 12, the band returns with a new EP, You Should Be Happy. There’s no cover art or track list yet, but the band hints that it will include some combination of new music, unreleased songs and at least one cover. Lead singer and guitarist John Rzeznik says he’s been working on covers of “Lights” by Ellie Goulding and “Somebody” by Depeche Mode, both of which are possibilities for the EP.

Meanwhile, the band has announced a summer tour with American Idol winner Phillip Phillips. For what it’s worth, when I saw the Goo Goo Dolls open for The Rolling Stones back in the late 90s, they more than held their own. For that alone, they earned my respect as a live act.
