One of my best concert memories was seeing Jane’s Addiction headline the very first Lollapalooza back in 1991. At the time, they were promoting their second full length album, Ritual de lo Habitual, which had been my entry point to their music. Of course, I quickly discovered Nothing’s Shocking as well, and that album’s “Mountain Song” was one I remember most vividly from Lollapalooza. As Perry Ferrell opened the song with the lyric “Comin’ down the mountain,” the stage lights turned to illuminate the vast audience that stretched up the rows of the amphitheater and onward up the lawn in the back. We were truly part of that mountain.
As both Lollapalooza and that second Jane’s album celebrate their 25th anniversary, the band is celebrating with a live video and CD. Ritual De Lo Habitual Alive At 25 will be released on DVD, BluRay, CD and vinyl on August 4. The 90 minute set will feature a complete performance of the Ritual album along with other classic tracks from the band.
