I’m positively knocked out by Lost On You, the fourth album from Laura Pergolizzi, who performs under the name LP. At 36 years old, she’s been kicking around the music scene for a while but hasn’t truly broken through to the wide audience her talent so richly deserves.
Ironically, there’s a good chance you’ve heard her songs and didn’t even know it. She’s written or co-written songs for the likes of Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Cher and the Backstreet Boys. (Don’t hold that last one against her.) She’s had her music featured in commercial and TV shows, and she’s appeared in most of the major music festivals.
LP’s sound is a blend of KT Tunstall, Gin Wigmore, Gwen Stefani, Lissie and a hint of Patti Smith. And man, can she blow! I mean, check out that whistle!
Lost On You was originally released back in December, but it’s received a re-release this week with a few added tracks and a publicity push including a performance on The Tonight Show. And I’ll freely admit, it was that appearance on Jimmy Fallon that got my attention.
If you dig the tracks I’ve shared here, be sure to check out the whole album! Meanwhile, I’m going to dig into her three earlier albums to see what I’ve been missing.
